Media of every type is essential for the freedom of speech and for disseminating information widely because as you all know it is the cornerstone of democracy.
Today, more than ever before, we have to guard the truth sayers – those brave individuals who stand up for the truth and go against everything to get news out. In India, as in other parts of the world, truth can be difficult to hear and journalists who fight corruption and crime, find themselves threatened, jailed under false charges or murdered for their bravery.
We must stand up for these colleagues and help them wherever we are in the world with the tools at our fingertips – the internet.
In a globalised internet news driven world where Twitter has the power to highlight human rights violations as they happen, we the media, the writers, the journalists and humankind watch in earnest to support and campaign against those who shut us down to shut us up.
Inside our core is a steel of truth and that drives right through us to the roots. Therefore, we never ever give up, ever.
Media = freedom
Media = truth
Media = democracy
All of these strengthen any nation worldwide.
