CII notes a revival in IIP growth during September 2008 at 4.8% compared to August IIP growth of 1.4%. While September 2008 IIP growth is more, the overall IIP growth for first 6 months of 2008-09 at 4.9% compared to 9.5% during the corresponding period last year is an indication that we are experiencing decline in industrial growth, said CII in a press statement issued here today. A bigger concern is the secular decline in the three month moving average of IIP growth.

The first orbit reduction manoeuvre of Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft which is orbiting the moon, was successfully performed on 9th night. As part of that manoeuvre which began at 20:03 IST, the 440 Newton liquid engine of the spacecraft was fired for about 57 seconds. With this, the nearest point of Chandrayaan-1’s orbit (periselene) from the moon’s surface was reduced from 504 km to 200 km while the farthest point (aposelene) remained unchanged at 7,502 km.

In this elliptical orbit, Chandrayaan-1 takes about ten and a half hours to circle the moon once.

BSA Motors, a Strategic Business Unit of Tube Investments of India (TII), part of the Rs.9582 crore (USD 2.4billion) Murugappa Group, launched five models of BSA eScooters today in the city.

The eScooters are manufactured at the BSA Motors new plant in Ambattur, with an investment of Rs.200 million for the first phase. The Ambattur plant has an initial production capacity of 150 eScooters a day which can be ramped upto 300 units per day as and when required. The first batch of eScooters would be rolled out from Chennai on 10th November 2008.
